Condensers can be divided into three categories: water-cooled condensers, air-cooled condensers and evaporative condensers according to their different cooling media. Water-cooled condensers use water as the cooling medium, and rely on the temperature rise of the water to take away the condensation heat. Water-cooled condensers can be divided into shell-and-tube condensers and sleeve-type condensers according to their structural forms. The more common ones are shell-and-tube condensers. Tube condenser, shell and tube condenser can be divided into vertical shell and tube condenser and horizontal shell and tube condenser.


The main features of vertical shell and tube condensers are:

1. Large cooling flow, high flow rate, and high heat transfer coefficient;

2. Vertical installation occupies a small area and can be installed outdoors;

3. The cooling water flows straight through and has a high flow rate, and the requirements for water quality are not high. General water sources can be used as cooling water;

4. The scale in the pipe is easy to remove without stopping the refrigeration system;

5. The water consumption is large, and because the equipment is placed in the air, the pipes are easily corroded, and leaks are easier to find.

Horizontal shell and tube condensers have similar shell structures to vertical condensers. The main differences are the horizontal placement of the shell and the multi-path flow of water.


Air-cooled condensers use air as the cooling medium and rely on the temperature rise of the air to take away the condensation heat. 

This type of condenser is suitable for situations where there is extreme water shortage or no water supply. According to different air flow methods, 

it can be divided into natural convection types. and forced convection type. 

The heat exchange of the evaporative condenser is mainly carried out by evaporating the cooling water in the air and absorbing the latent heat of vaporization. 

According to the flow mode, it can be divided into suction type and pressure feeding type. 

The evaporative condenser consists of a cooling pipe group, water supply equipment, ventilation It is composed of machine, water baffle and box body.
